Thursday’s weather narrative weaves a tranquil tale with a high of 64°F under the dance of partly cloudy skies. A whisper of wind from the WNW at a mere 4 mph will barely stir the leaves. The UV index sits at a gentle 3, making for a day when the sun plays hide and seek, but still warrants a light layer of sunscreen.

As twilight deepens, the thermometer will drop to a cool 45°F, while clouds gather to set a more dramatic stage for the night. The breeze remains a light easterly whisper at 3 mph, and humidity swells to 87%, giving the air a thick, velvet quality. The moon's waxing crescent will grace the sky at 10:15 am, maintaining the celestial show. Embrace a day that promises to be as soothing as a calm sea under a pensive sky! ☁️🌤️🌒

President’s Day Weekend I-680 Closure in Pleasanton Called Off Due to Weather Concerns

The scheduled closure of the southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton, set for the President’s Day weekend from February 16 to 20, has been cancelled due to the forecast of rain. This section, stretching from the intersection with Interstate 580 to Koopman Road, was initially closed to allow contractors to replace a segment of the worn-out pavement with new, durable road material. The intention behind this project was to fix the existing pavement that was in poor condition, thereby increasing safety for drivers and reducing the need for frequent nighttime closures.

Originally, the southbound lanes of I-680 were to be shut down from 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, until 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20. The closure aimed to expedite the rehabilitation of the freeway's pavement, completing the task a full year ahead of schedule. This early completion was anticipated to provide a smoother driving experience as early as January 2024, avoiding extended usage of the deteriorating road surface expected until 2025. Moreover, the work planned for this single weekend was projected to replace what would have required about 50 closures during nighttime hours.

Amid Defensive Reevaluation, 49ers Bid Farewell to Coordinator Steve Wilks

The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with defensive coordinator Steve Wilks after one season, as announced by head coach Kyle Shanahan. The decision came after a thorough evaluation of the team's strategic direction, particularly in maintaining the defensive scheme. Despite a solid start and finishing among the top in several defensive metrics, the team faced challenges, especially in playoff run defense. Shanahan aims to find a new coordinator who can better unify the team's defensive efforts, with the search including both internal and external candidates.
