Vacant Building in Concord Engulfed by Early Morning Blaze
Early Tuesday morning, a two-alarm fire engulfed a vacant commercial building in downtown Concord, effectively contained by Contra Costa County fire crews. The incident was first reported on social media by the Contra Costa County Fire Department, indicating the location at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and East Street just before 1 a.m. Within 30 minutes, the fire was under control, but crews remained on scene into the morning to address remaining hot spots.
Thankfully, there were no injuries as the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Despite the quick containment, local authorities are urging the public to steer clear of the area. Several road closures have been implemented around downtown Concord to facilitate emergency operations, impacting major thoroughfares including Clayton Road, Oakland Avenue, Grant Street, and others near the BART parking on Park Street.
